Rowing Programs

Learn to Row

Interested in learning to row with VBC?

We offer two sessions from May through August.  Each session is typically 4 weeks long and consists of twelve 90 minute classes.  Sessions fill up quickly so advanced registration is highly recommended!  There are only 12 openings per class and we reserve spaces on a first-come basis.  To advance register, see the instructions below.

This program focuses on sweep rowing.  For more information, see our Sweep vs. Sculling page.

Rowers will learn proper blade technique, body position, and teamwork to enjoy the thrill, power, and speed of rowing.  Depending on availability, the course will culminate in novice racing at a local/regional regatta.

Learn to RowVBC is a master's rowing club, primarily for rowers age 21 and over, although, we do accept members as young as 18. Youth rowing for high school age athletes is currently offered by James River High School, Trinity High School, and the River City Crew.

Graduates from the sweep program will be eligible to join VBC at a discounted rate.

Lessons are taught at the Downtown Boathouse in the evenings (6:00pm - 7:30pm) on Mondays and Wednesdays and on Saturday mornings (7:30am - 9:00am).  Lessons are taught at Robious Landing based on demand.
